Great Spaces: What Makes an Apartment Truly Great?

Choosing the perfect apartment is not the easiest task. Price is, of course, an important factor but it’s not all. Not only does the interior of the apartment need to meet your requirements but so does the complex and general location. The perfect apartment for one person may not be so ideal for another. However, there are some general things which you need to consider if you’re looking for a new place to lay your head.

Quiet or happening?

Do you need your peace and quiet or are you okay with lots happening around you? If you sleep lightly or need to go to sleep early so you can start a late shift, you may want to prioritize low noise levels. Aim for a top floor or single story, garden-style complex. On the other hand, if you want to meet new people and have a resort-like atmosphere every day of the year, an expansive, high-rise complex with activities may be best. You can find properties with yoga classes, game nights and entertainment.  For example, if you’re looking for apartments downtown San Antonio, you can find a complex with dog parks, gaming tables, and a Wi-Fi cafe.

Entertainment possibilities

You may want to consider an open plan apartment with a roomy kitchen if you love having people over. Alternatively, you may want to look for a community with common areas like dining rooms or sky view pools. That way you can host events without needing extra space in your actual apartment. You also need to ensure your neighbors won’t mind a little extra noise.

Transportation options

Do you need to have access to public transportation or do you drive a vehicle? Your preferred mode of transportation should factor into your apartment hunting. If you will need to commute to work every day you may want easy access to a train station or bus stop. If you drive, you may want a community with readily available, safe parking.

Recreation and shopping

Do you have kids who like to run around outside? Do you want to be steps away from shopping facilities, bars or cafes? If you answered yes to the first question, you’ll need an apartment near a safe and secure playground. In the second instance, you probably don’t want a place that far from the city center.

The lease

This is one of the key factors which will determine whether the apartment you have your heart set on is truly great. All of the amenities to which you have access should be clearly stated in the lease contract along with the price and the term length. You should also know what it would cost if you broke the lease and if you have the option to sublet the apartment or list it on Airbnb or a similar site.

It may take some time to find an apartment which meets all your needs and is within your price range, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. Decide which attributes are most important and take your time as you shop around.
