How the moving box estimate works
The calculation starts with a baseline for the selected home size. It then adjusts for the number of residents, the amount of belongings, how long the household has accumulated items, and extra storage areas. The total is divided into a practical mix of small, medium, large, and wardrobe boxes.
Small boxes are useful for dense, heavy items because they remain easier to carry. Medium boxes handle many everyday belongings. Large boxes should be reserved for lighter bulky items so they do not become unsafe to lift. Wardrobe boxes are optional but convenient for hanging clothes.
Reduce waste before buying everything
Start by decluttering and asking local stores, neighbors, or community groups about reusable boxes. Pack a few rooms first to test the estimate, and keep receipts when purchasing bundles that can be returned. Specialty items such as televisions, mirrors, artwork, dishes, and mattresses may require separate containers or protective materials.
